Body Fat Calculator
Estimate body fat percentage from height and circumference measurements using the US Navy method
Result
The Formula (US Navy Method)
Men: Body fat % = 495 ÷ (1.0324 − 0.19077 × log₁₀(waist − neck) + 0.15456 × log₁₀(height)) − 450
Women: Body fat % = 495 ÷ (1.29579 − 0.35004 × log₁₀(waist + hip − neck) + 0.22100 × log₁₀(height)) − 450
Developed by Hodgdon and Beckett at the Naval Health Research Center in 1984. All measurements are in centimetres (cm); log₁₀ is the base-10 logarithm.
How to Measure
- Neck: measure horizontally just below the Adam's apple (larynx), keeping the tape snug but not tight.
- Waist: measure at navel level while standing relaxed, without sucking in your stomach.
- Hip (women only): measure horizontally around the widest point of the buttocks.
